2025/26 PE & Sports at St Andrews Primary School
The awards were hosted by Debden Park Secondary School.
We had 3 individual award winners and for the first time ever, a Team of the Year nomination!
A huge well done to:
Finally, our Year 5&6 Cricket Team who took the Bronze Medal in the Team of the Year category.
We are incredibly proud of all of the children, and thank the parents for attending and cheering them on in what was the hottest school hall I have ever been in....it would possibly have been cooler to host the event on the surface of the Sun!

The day started with Key Stage 2 Sports Day in the morning where children took part in a mixture of competitive and fun PE based activities. In the afternoon it was the turn of Key Stage 1 who got the chance to show off their sporting talents and PE skills they had learned this year.
As the day came to a close we had a fantastic Cheerleading performance from Miss Bank's Cheerleading Squad. Then we were treated to a performance of 2 songs from the school choir including Mr Leverington's sports anthem, Mountain which the rest of the school joined in with. Finally, it was the interhouse relay to finish the day which is always a great spectacle. After a close fought race and tallying up the scores from the day we had a tie between Lancaster and Hurricane. This lead to a first ever interhouse race off to decide the winner with the crown eventually taken by Lancaster for a consecutive year. What a fantastic day with lots of smiles on faces which is what it is all about.
A huge well done to Lancaster and to all of the children who displayed friendship, courage and confidence throughout a very hot and sweaty day of sports.
Thank you to the parents and carers who cheered on our little sporting stars, we hope you had a great day too!
Since joining this school, something I have absolutely loved is the sense of community and how this extends beyond the school gates. Our neighbours at North Weald Cricket Club have worked with us as volunteers to offer their services and expertise to promote a love of Cricket at our school, and that has driven today's success!

Then, on Monday 15th June, the weather wasn't quite so nice, but the smiles were huge and the team spirit was evident as 20 children from St Andrew's took part in the annual KS2 District Sports event at Mark Hall. Battered by the wind and the rain, children took part in a wide range of track and field events from jumping and throwing through to sprints and relays, it was a jam-packed morning. The weather didn't dampen the spirits of all involved and St Andrew's finished 'Runners Up' bringing home the Silver medal. Well done and thank you to the parents and carers who withstood the weather to cheer on our school.
2 semi final cup matches in the sunshine 🌞
The girls took to the pitch first against Hatfield Heath girls. In a close fought first half St Andrew’s eventually took the lead thanks to a scrappy own goal. Hatfield Heath equalised at the start of the 2nd half before St Andrew’s took control of the tie, eventually winning 4-1 thanks to 3 goals in the 2nd half from Bea, Flo & Brontie ⚽️⚽️⚽️
After the girls booked their place in the Final the pressure was on the boys (and Maisie) to see if they could do the same.
Also playing Hatfield Heath it was always going to be a close game at the semi final stage. Ralph S gave St Andrew’s the lead with a lovely strike from outside the box.
St Andrew’s were leading at half time but the 2nd half was a much tougher story with Hatfield Heath having multiple attempts on the St Andrew’s goal.
Deniz calmed the St Andrew’s nerves with a beautifully taken goal before Maisie made it 3....and then 4 ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️
Final score, 4-0 and we now have two Cup Final matches to look forward to next term. Thank you to the parents who withstood the heat to cheer both teams on.
St Andrew’s march on! Friendship, courage and confidence...always!
Two Quarter Final football wins in the first week followed by Year 5&6 Tennis at Theydon Bois last Friday, and finally Year 3&4 Tennis at Theydon Bois today. There has been plenty of sport played outside St Andrew's which is great, but it has also been wonderful to see so many little sportsmen and women attending our Summer term clubs offering.
We have more children than ever filling the school in the mornings and after school, some seasoned club attendees, many attending a sports club for the first time, its exactly what this job is all about!
Football on Mondays, morning Athletics on Tuesdays, our incredibly popular Cricket on Wednesdays, our newly launched Cheerleading club, before Tennis on Thursdays, I am so incredibly proud to see so many children accessing sport and having smiles on their faces!!
A huge thank you to the staff who help put these clubs on in their own time, especially Mr Dawson and (an injured one-legged cheerleading coach) Ms Banks, alongside the volunteers from North Weald Cricket Club, we really are so incredibly lucky to be able to offer these opportunities to our children.

Tag Rugby Competition
Last week we saw the start of the 2025/26 Sports Club offering with Football, Cross Country and Tag Rugby proving extremely popular. All 3 clubs were oversubscribed, and additional spaces have already been released to keep up with demand! It's fantastic to see so many of our little ones keen to push their sporting endeavours this year!
A huge thank you to the parents and carers who transported the children and cheered them on through every try and tag. It was fantastic day for all involved.
